Browser game not working? Fixes for lag, no sound and black screens
Published October 16, 2026
Browser games depend on your browser, your connection and your device, and when one of those struggles you see lag, silence or a blank screen. Work through these fixes in order, because the first few solve most problems.
The game will not load or shows a black screen
- Reload the page. A single dropped request is the most common cause.
- Check your connection by opening another site. Games download their files when they start, so a weak connection stalls them.
- Update your browser. Modern games use features that older versions do not support.
- Pause extensions for this site. Some games show an ad before they start, and an aggressive blocker can leave the loader waiting forever.
The game is slow or laggy
Close other tabs and heavy programs first, since a browser game shares memory with everything else you have open. If lag continues, turn on hardware acceleration in your browser settings, and on a phone close background apps. Playing in a smaller window sometimes helps because there are fewer pixels to draw.
There is no sound
Browsers block audio until you interact with the page. Click inside the game once, then check that the tab is not muted and that the game's own sound option is on.
Controls do not respond
Click the game area so it receives keyboard focus. On a phone, rotate to landscape, because many games position their buttons for a wide screen.
About old Flash games
Adobe Flash was discontinued at the end of 2020 and current browsers no longer run it. Games built with HTML5 work everywhere, which is why we focus on them.
If none of this helps, send us the game name and your browser through the contact page and we will check it.
